BETTA PLACE, INC. MISSION:
The mission of 501 (c)3 non-profit organization Betta Place,
Inc., is to provide mental and physical educational services
to the general public by placing special emphasis on the
value of teaching love and forgiveness as universally held
themes, and teaching children the value of promoting and
maintaining well-balanced, nutritional diets.
THE ORGANIZATION:
Betta Place, Inc. has pilot programs in place in two
elementary schools. Golden Door Charter School, Jersey City,
New Jersey, students, grades K-8 witnessed the actual event
of 9-11 on the New York skyline, which is in full view from
their school. Public School 53, Staten Island, New York,
students, grades K-5 were impacted by a very high percentage
of loss of parents, relatives and friends on that tragic
day. This foundation was created by the loved ones of
Frederick John Cox, who was lost in the South Tower on 9/11.
In honor of him and all those who died on that day, Betta
Place, Inc., is dedicated to the vision of creating
something positive in the midst of tragedy.
ORGANIZATION HISTORY:
Betta Place, Inc. was created July 2002. Since September 11,
2001, over sixty presentations have been given to civic
organizations, schools and colleges on the East Coast. The
children's book Freddy & Flossy Flutterby, written
and illustrated by Ann Douglas, is about balance in the
lives of children. The foundation owns the books, and all
proceeds from sales go to Betta Place, Inc. This book, in
which Frederick John Cox is a leading character, imparts the
message of love and forgiveness. There are songs, handouts,
games, CD=s and other educational resources which have been
developed and dispersed. All of this was created not only to
honor Frederick John Cox but also, to honor all the innocent
lives lost on 9/11. Those who work with Betta Place, Inc.,
support the concept that how we live our lives will honor
our loved ones the most.
